Bali’s vibrant mix of culture, arts, beaches and waves, all set against a stunning backdrop of verdant rice fields, temples and volcanoes, have long drawn visitors from around the world. However, Bali also has some of Indonesia’s best and most accessible diving.

At Tulamben, on Bali’s northeast coast, one of the world’s most accessible wrecks lies just off the beach – that of the Liberty. Lying on its side just meters from the black pebble shoreline, the wreck offers a perfect opportunity for visitors to dive into history and witness the power of nature to transform a metal hulk into a thriving ecosystem, festooned with soft corals and sea fans. Tulamben is the home of the amazing USAT Liberty Ship-wreck which sits from just 3 metres all the way to 28 metres of water. This site is a perfect dive for all levels of diver, and its great for Underwater photography.

There are also some amazing other dive sites, such as the Drop Off or “Rugged Wall” and ” The Coral Garden”. This is a not to miss dive site in Bali

Available as an optional add-on, Nusa Penida is where you will find Manta Point and the amazing Manta Rays, some of Indonesia’s best diving and Crystal Bay, which in the high season (July till November) you may be lucky enough to see one of the Giant Oceanic Sunfish (Mola-Mola) that are so sought after by divers. On the edge of the Coral Triangle, Nusa Penida boasts spectacular underwater scenery, exhilarating drift dives and some amazing fish life.

Money Matters

The currency used in Bali is Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). The exchange rate as of time of writing is 1 SGD = 10,000 IDR.

Meals in Tulamben are generally very affordable, ranging from 5000 IDR to 50,000 IDR for local Warung food, and 35,000 to 150,000 IDR for western food at high end restaurants. There is a convenience store in Tulamben (Indomaret) selling toiletries, medicines, snacks, fruits and beverages.

Prepare enough cash for a typical spend per day of around IDR 250,000 if you’re dining at western restaurants. There are 2 ATMs in Tulamben, but be wary of surcharges by your bank.
